Day 10 and 11: St.Louis and Route 66

Good morning from New Mexico and from Santa Fe! Our coast to coast is going great: today we’re leaving again to see the national parks I visited about 13 years ago, on a family trip across US with my parents when I was 12.. I can’t wait to see Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon again before heading to Las Vegas next Sunday 🙂
These are the photos from last Sunday and Monday: after some hours at Lollapalooza we left towards St.Louis where we arrived at about 9.30 pm. For dinner I followed the advice of some of my followers and went to BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups, where we listened to live music from Matt Hill & The Deep Fryed Two all night long, enjoying the jazz rhytm of the city.
On Monday morning we woke up early and visited St.Louis for a couple of hours, going up on the Arch (to arrive to the top at 192 m of height we took some mini chairlifts inside the building), and then we left towards Oklahoma City driving on the mother road, Route 66.
Some mandatory stops were Gay Parita Filling Station & Garage, where we got to know the owner Gary (the place is worth a visit even only thanks to him), an old filling station which looked like the source of inspiration for the movie Cars. Other place we stopped and that I would suggest is the ghost town, completely abandoned and extremely fascinating, in which I shot the photos on the Cadillac.. Driving on Route 66 is a dream came true to me 🙂 Now we only need to find a drive-in cinema and my american dream will be fulfilled!

Buongiorno dal New Mexico, precisamente da Santa Fe! Il nostro coast to coast procede alla grande: oggi ripartiamo verso i parchi nazionali che io avevo visitato circa 13 anni fa, insieme alla mia famiglia quando avevo 12 anni… Non vedo l’ora di rivedere la Monument Valley, il Bryce Canyon ed il Grand Canyon prima di arrivare a Las Vegas domenica 🙂
Queste sono invece le foto di domenica e lunedi: dopo qualche ora passata al Lollapalooza siamo ripartiti verso St.Louis dove siamo arrivati, distrutti, verso le 9.30 di sera. Per cena ho seguito il consiglio di alcuni dei miei follower: siamo stati a mangiare al BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups, dove abbiamo ascoltato live Matt Hill & The Deep Fryed Two tutta la serata, godendoci il ritmo jazz della città.
Lunedi mattina ci siamo svegliati presto ed abbiamo visitato qualche ora St.Louis, salendo sull’arco (per arrivare ai 192 metri d’altezza abbiamo preso delle mini ovovie all’interno della struttura), per poi ripartire verso Oklahoma City proseguendo sulla madre di tutte le strade, la Route 66.
Tappe obbligatorie sono state il Gay Parita Filling Station & Garage, dove abbiamo conosciuto il proprietario Gary (che da solo vale la visita), una vecchia stazione di servizio che sembrava la fonte d’ispirazione del film Cars. Altro posto consigliato è la città fantasma, completamente abbandonata ed estremamente affascinante, in cui ho scattato le foto sulle Cadillac d’epoca.. Guidare sulla Route 66 è davvero un sogno diventato realtà 🙂 Ora dobbiamo solo riuscire a trovare un cinema drive-in ed il mio sogno americano si realizzerà del tutto!
