CANNES 2019: TBS’S REPORT CARD AND FAV LOOKS

#1 Chiara Ferragni in Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini

Chiara’s look by Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini is the perfect mix of elegance and sensuality. On the one hand we find the luxury and red carpet allure that only custom made garments can give, on the other hand a large charge of sensuality with a rock soul: there is a bodice covered with Swarovski crystals with velvet bows decorated with metal studs, and a long silk skirt with a deep, feminine slit. An outfit that perfectly embodies the personality of the modern woman, bold, confident, ready to dare with her style choices, but without ever falling into banality. The accessories that match the dress are also splendid, that is to say the silver-coloured sandals by Sergio Rossi and the Pomellato bracelets with chain weaving.

#2 Elsa Hosk in Etro

Elsa Hosk‘s dress seems to have come from a Hollywood dream of the Fifties. Brigitte Bardot’s hair slightly cottoned, simple and natural make-up, and then a cascade of tulle in pastel colors that gently fade from the pink to the aquamarine, from canary yellow to lavender, creating a continuous colour flow. Etro‘s dress is soft, in empire style, which embraces the figure without tightening it, making Elsa’s enviable silhouette visible without highlighting it too much. A very thin golden belt tightens the waist, while gold cluster earrings and a white diamond bracelet both by de Grisogono complete the look that becomes even more princely.

#3 Bella Hadid in Christian Dior

No super sexy slits for Bella Hadid, who this year chooses an ethereal and angelic outfit by Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri, a wonderful piece from the Spring Summer 2018 haute couture collection. A play on transparencies given by the thin and light fabric that keeps however the sensual allure typical of the beautiful model. With a very thin ribbon that binds to the neck, the dress opens becoming wider, almost like a cloud that swells with rain, and culminates in the long and voluminous train. Bvlgari jewels give her face and look an intense brightness.

#4 Alessandra Ambrosio in Julien X Gabriela

Alessandra Ambrosio is super sexy in a total-red look by Julien X Gabriela. A dress with an arabesque cut, vaguely reminiscent of the movement and width of the Turkish trousers of princess Jasmine, and thanks to a game of volumes the outfit turns out to be interesting and not at all obvious. The dress is tied at the neck and then flutters lightly in flaming red volutes, revealing Alessandra’s splendid legs and showing off Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. The delicate Boucheron jewels give the whole a much more elegant air. A defect? Perhaps the dress does not completely do justice to the grace of Alessandra, who could have focused on a more classic and elegant model.

#5 Camila Coelho in Georges Hobeika

Camila Coelho focuses instead on the too classic, choosing a typical red carpet dress by Georges Hobeika. A sweetheart neckline flows into a tight bustier and an evanescent skirt covered with bright embroidery. The back of the dress shows instead a very long train of antique pink silk, and the outfit is made precious by a parure of Boucheron jewels. Camila is certainly splendid, and the opposite cannot be said, but she could have dared a little more by choosing a mini dress or a more extravagant outfit.

#6 Winnie Harlow in Ralph & Russo

Winnie Harlow is really beautiful in a fishtail gown by Ralph & Russo. The dress is total-black in super transparent fabric, with a decoration in green, white and black buckle beads. Around the waist, a black Japanese crocodile obi, and as jewels she wears de Grisogono drop earrings. Through the train we can see Jimmy Choo’s black sandals. She is also wonderful, but the look is not entirely convincing. An unusual mix of simplicity and exaggeration: the dress is not particularly elaborate, except for some precious embroidery and detail, but at the same time the dress is a bit too transparent. She can certainly afford it, but we are still in Cannes.

#7 Izabel Goulart in Etro

Izabel Goulart also chooses a tight-fitting gown with a train, in this case by Etro. The dress is completely covered with burgundy sequins, and leaves the back and hips uncovered. To make the scene, more than the dress, are the maxi chandeliers with a degradé effect in shades of purple by Chopard, which focus attention on the jewel. Here too we find traditional clothing, very beautiful but without that extra touch of eccentricity.

#8 Sara Sampaio in Georges Hobeika

Sara Sampaio wears a princely dress in a delicate shade of peach colour by Georges Hobeika. The dress is strapless, with a very wide and voluminous skirt … in short, a must-see on every red carpet. Loose hair and a maxi Boucheron necklace enrich the décolleté, creating a nice play of proportions between the upper and lower part of the outfit. The criticism always remains the same: she bet on a winning horse without risking betting on something new.

#9 Pryanka Chopra in Georges Hobeika

Riviera romance

A goddess in white, or rather, a real bride. The wedding of Pryanka Chopra and Nick Jonas seems to never end, and after the numerous wedding celebrations between India and the USA, they celebrate their love also in Cannes, and Pryanka shows a wide wedding dress by Georges Hobeika, completed with Chopard tiara and jewels. It is certainly an enchantment, but maybe it was time to move away from the altar and return to the spotlight.

#10 Elle Fanning in Christian Dior

Last of our ranking is the fantastic Elle Fanning, who showed absolutely fabulous looks throughout the Festival. Being part of the jury, she had to dare and think big, and this Dior look is the concrete proof. One of monsieur Christian‘s classic models comes back to life in a wide black tulle skirt combined with a white and transparent silk shirt, completed with a wide-brimmed hat, curly hair look and pumps with crossed laces on the front. Nothing to say about the beauty of the outfit, but Elle is very young and maybe this look gives her an air too ladylike, not enhancing the freshness of her age.
