DIOR SS 2020: THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE SIGNED BY MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI

In a context where nature seems to be the one and only victim of nowadays world, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior creative director, paid homage to an extraordinary spectacle that has been the setting of her SS 2020 collection. INCLUSIVE GARDEN, this is the concept behind the 164 trees purchased by the Maison to be replanted in Paris for other permanent projects, with the hope of taking the first step against climate change.

The beauty of nature partnered, maybe for the first time in a so explicit way, with the one of fashion at its purest. Fashion and nature have always been a topic close to the brand and in particular, to Catherine Dior, the Miss Dior sister of Christian, whose passion for plants and flowers have inspired Maria Grazia in this wonderful project.

The natural and completely recyclable set realized together with Coloco, gave life to a sort of Labyrinth where have been showed beautiful clothes. The call to nature is present in the collection too, that from time to time is ethereal and sophisticated as well as genderless and casual. The keyword is wearable and what catches the eyes immediately are the colours palette chosen by Dior: a spectacle of neutral colours and transparencies embroidered with floral and shining elements…but not only! Also, the tie-dye, great protagonist of the past collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, is repurposed this time in softer shades that mix pastel and ash colours. Bright colours were, by the way, present in some pieces that made the rainbow one of the protagonists of this collection.

Talking about patterns, if last winter was the tartan to dominate, this year are back:  the Pied de Poule on a cream base, the Pinstripe in a more conceptual and abstract version and the floral pattern, the real trademark of the collection. The mood is in general bucolic and sometimes boho, the shapes are sinuous but not sensual, the femininity is given by the just hinted volumes modelled on the silhouette with super-thin waist belts and laces. To counteract the generally unisex mood are the mini dresses and playsuits that make super feminine even the most boyish light blue shirts.

Also the coord sets, given the variety of prints, are those that redefined the stylistic codes of the brand; now in a pinstripe version, then pied de poule and tartan again to make all the Dior affectionate fall in love. Be careful, however, the Greek goddess allure is not gone thanks to the presence of maxi dresses with transparent and light textures matched with maxi coats and feathered bomber jackets.

To give a twist to this ethereal mood are the accessories, like the safari boots in the shades of black and khaki green. Let’s face it, last but not least the accessories of this collection represented some of the unmissable trends of the coming seasons. First of all the bucket hat that is proposed in a straw version for the SS 2020 together with cotton baker boy hats. Talking about bags the iconic saddle and the Dior Oblique shopper are the winners of this collection, in a darker total black version or in a more bohemian one in the shades of cream and pink.
