Fall has been here for a few days now, and the memory of summer seems long gone, but here it is Per lanciarsi dalle stelle, the new Netflix film directed by Andrea Jublin, takes us back to a delightful holiday atmosphere. It is the summer when Sole (Federica Torchetti) turns 25 and her whole world is about to change. But there’s more, PLDS is the story of a girl born and raised in Conversano, Apulia, immersed in a life made up of small rituals that never change and where stepping out of one’s comfort zone means losing control and setting off a series of anxiety and panic attacks. Even the most insignificant gesture can become a titanic feat, and the only one able to understand Sole’s difficulties and help her has always been Emma, her best friend who is no longer there. But it will still be thanks to her and the friendship that bound them together that everything will find a new dimension in Sole’s journey of growth.
A very common theme, that of anxiety management, but rarely addressed and brought to the small or big screen. Per lanciarsi dalle stelle is an invitation to throw one’s heart over the hurdle to pursue one’s dreams. An apt cast, Cristiano Caccamo to Lorenzo Richelmy to name two – they are the two male figures who revolve around Sole in this summer of training – but it is with extreme and unexpected delicacy that Torchetti convinces and holds the whole film, maintaining a constant (and very successful) dialogue of looks with the viewer.
