The Paris Haute Couture shows, which include some of the most pop and prestigious names in the fashion system from Jean Paul Gaultier to Dior, via Giambattista Valli and Chanel, will continue until Thursday.
Today was the day of the haute couture collection designed by Virginie Viard for Chanel. The creative director of the historic French fashion house seems to have taken a different route this time, decidedly closer to the imagery of her mentor Karl Lagerfeld.
So this collection comes to life amidst ivory double-breasted coats, flared jackets and miniskirts embellished with feathery fringes. Accessories include the classic black top hat, a bow tie (very similar to a choker) and flat shoes. Viard seems to love slim silhouettes, non-excessive flounces and a very select palette of soft colours.
The show ends with a below-the-knee wedding dress made of ivory tulle and paired with gold boots. Then the bow by the creative director, this time flanked by artist Xavier Veilhan, who designed the entire set.
