Spotted again at Grand Central, bags in hand: Serena van der Woodsen. Gossip Girl said so. Seven years after the last episode, The CW series, that aired its pilot on September 19th, 2007, is ready to come back with a reboot. And the news, as expected, has rekindled the hopes of all Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Dan Humphrey and co. fans.
As USA media outlets reported last week, The CW chairman Mark Pedovitz said that there’s “a discussion happening” when it comes to a reboot of Gossip Girl. And a reboot means a new cast and new a new plot, as it happened with Sabrina, the Teenage Witch with the latest Chilling adventures of Sabrina reboot. “But I don’t know if we’re there yet,” said Pedovitz, who added: “I don’t know what it would be.” It seems that it all comes down to the involvement of original EPs Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Pedovitz, in fact, has said that he doesn’t want to do anything without them.”
How could Gossip Girl be like today? If in 2012, she was hiding behind a blog and text messages, it wouldn’t be strange in 2019 to see her run a mysterious Instagram account, thanks to all the alerts sent by her million followers all over the world. Schwarz himself, in 2016, said: “The world has become Gossip Girl now… Now literally everyone is Gossip Girl.”
Serena and Blair, with their amazing outfits, their romances, their feuds, and their frenemies, were actually the very first influencers ever. Can you imagine them posting their shopping tours at Bergdorf Goodman, their selfies on Met stairs or spreading the news of their break up with Nate or Dan with a story? The answer is: absolutely!
Who will take the baton from two icons like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester and become the new S and B? While we’re waiting for an official announcement about the reboot, let’s have a major throwback to some of the cult scenes of this teen drama. And remember to take a look at our Instagram stories.
