New year, new virtual space for the now consolidated collaboration of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, which came last weekend at the presentation of the FW 2021/22 menswear collection. The duo, now on the lips of all fashion addicts, has once again amazed the public of its aficionados (and not) with an unprecedented men’s collection that plays on tactility. “We used the idea of creating a virtual space, thanks to architecture and technology, which was neither external but internal” these are the words of the designers who underlined, in a live Q&A, this time with students from all over the world. world, the need for the fashion universe to return to touch and feel the fabrics that enhance sensations of pleasantness.

This is one way to return to an action that in this year of distancing we have missed more than all the others: to touch it first hand. From knitwear to jacquard, from iconic re-nylon to bouclé tweed, from wool to velvet, to lined leather: the diktat is to wrap and create an extremely comfortable and enveloping wardrobe. The inspiration is a combination of iconic shapes and patterns in the history of fashion: the geometric patterns of the 60s, the oversized shapes in the 80s outerwear and the silhouettes that play with contrasts, typically the 90s. The color palette follows the seasonal trends to the letter: darker colors are protagonists such as black, blue and grey but alternate with the most popular pantones of the year such as yellow, purple and pink.
The looks play on overlaps: the pants are cozy but super enveloping, broken up by oversize sweaters overlaid with turtlenecks; and to close the bomber and blazer looks with rigorously oversized details. The digital show was unprecedented, in the wake of the latest Women’s SS 21 collection, but with new elements, such as the dancing interludes of the models that, to the rhythm of DJ Richie Hawtin‘s records, enhanced the “non-spaces” in marble and details faux fur designed by Rem Koolhaas and AMO. The Prada Menswear FW 21 collection also entered the hearts of the women present at the show, who have already spotted, as the supermodel Gigi Hadid confirmed, some items of the male wardrobe that are absolutely transversal and perfectly suited to the female universe.
It goes without saying that we fell in love with some of the pieces in the collection which, let’s face it, are also very suitable for the women’s wardrobe. Here is the selection of our Fav.
