It seems years have gone by since, last February, we noted the trends that would dominate this dreaded autumn season from fashion weeks around the world. Amid uncertainties, the desire to return to normalcy and fear of the near future, Autumn has arrived after a wave of changes and expectations. The pandemic has played a central role in the change of direction taken by the fashion system, which seems to have embraced more consistent and less fleeting values, the importance of raw materials that last over time has returned, and the beginning of the sunset of the sportswear to leave room for a more sophisticated, minimal and above all sustainable style.
With the arrival of Autumn we are ready to inaugurate a new chapter of this year so different from the others, and if the desire to return to normal has ruled the minds of all of us, well the time has come to review what surely we forgot from last fashion month’s shows. Do not expect, as we have anticipated, oversized sweatpants and sweatshirts, this Autumn fashion plays on sartorial details, harmonious shapes and precious materials, falls in love with the total look to give stylistic coherence to all outfits, from the most casual to the most elegant.
FRINGES
The 20s are in the front row and look at the catwalks of this F/W 2020 with pride. Fringes have abandoned the warm temperatures to become the protagonists of the winter looks on jackets (especially), midi skirts and accessories. Miuccia Prada has made it a leitmotiv declined in a more informal key, while Dior and Alberta Ferretti make the roaring twenties incredibly contemporary.
MAXI COLLARS
It doesn’t matter whether they are Sailor’s or Peter Pan’s, maxi collars are the bon ton detail of every trendy autumn outfit. On shirts, but also oversized sweaters and mini dresses they are a must-have to try, not only in a total white version but also colored and with three-dimensional details. Chanel, Gucci and MSGM docet.
VEST
Oversized, in woven knit or fur, the vests are the most faithful ally of autumn. The versatility of this garment makes it perfect for the crazy autumn weather, to be worn on shirts with puff sleeves, oversized sweaters and midi dresses.
HOBO BAG
Beloved in the 90s and then a bit forgotten, the Hobo Bag is back in the Olympus of this season’s most wanted accessories. Its most famous (and iconic) version is the Gucci Jackie O, revisited this year in new must-have colors. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a more contemporary version of the Hobo, look at those by Bottega Veneta or Alberta Ferretti and fall in love with them.
LEATHER LOOK
Total leather and when we say total we mean EVERYTHING! Leather garments and accessories, especially ton sur ton, are the very popular trend of this Autumn. Oversized bomber jackets, pleated midi skirts, but also soft trousers and leather blazers make up essential looks; the nuances to try? Bordeaux and camel. (Eco leather be clear!)
PUFF SLEEVES
Super chic and on the podium of trends for at least 3 seasons, puff sleeves are a must-have (also) this fall. No longer just shirts and mini dresses, however, but they are preferred over pullovers and tailored coats. Très chic
CAPES AND HOODS
Undisputed queens of the outerwear of this next F/W 2020, capes and hoods are the dream of every fashion addicted. There are many models, from the more structured to those with softer shapes, in tight or oversize versions, solid or colored for daytime looks.
TARTAN
Last but not least the tartan. Admit it how many times have you seen it appear in autumn trends? Well it defends its position as the trendiest pattern of the cold season, and this Autumn it has definitely succeeded.
