Clueless: the Nineties cult movie every fashionsta is obsessed with

If tartan is the fashion obsession everybody is talking about (we said something as well here, we’re telling you why: Clueless style is back! The 1995 cult movie made Alicia Silverstone a Hollywood rising star, but also add some coolness to a pattern that was always related to Scotland and kilts. We must say thank you to Cher Horowitz, the high-school princess everyone was jealous of and that was not very impressed by grunge aesthetic.

You probably don’t know that, in the movie, there are reportedly 53 tartan’s patterns and that Cher herself, in her 60 costume changes in 90 minutes, wears 7 different prints? Costume designer Mona May decided to put this design everywhere in the movie: in those years, all the kids in high-school were dressed like young Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, and she thought it would be great to add a feminine and lively touch to these check prints, which became an exclusive of punk rockers and their flannel shirts.

Cher was a true fashion inspiration: did you remember the software she used to create the perfect look for school? The most iconic one was the very first outfit she wore in the movie: a yellow plaid ensemble.

Versace was clearly inspired by Cher (the brand posted on Instagram, some videos where models like Kaia Gerber, Gigi e Bella Hadid, channeled their inner Cher Horowitz with some cult quotes, like the famous ‘As if!’) for the iconic yellow and purple tartan look, while Michael Kors reinterpreted this style on masculine outfits. Sara Battaglia chose her famous sister Giovanna, better known on Instagram as Bat Gio as the perfect ambassador for her latest collection, definitely Clueless-inspired!

This yellow plaid look created by the Italian designer became a cult thanks to our muse Chiara Ferragni, who wore it for a business meeting inside our headquarter, and Olivia Palermo, who was spotted dressed like Cher at Milan Fashion Week.
