Ewan McGregor, as many of you already know, is a Scottish actor best known for his versatility and an innate ability to play very different characters. His extraordinary career has seen him alternate between theater, film and television-with some successful television series. Born in Perth on March 31, 1971, McGregor celebrates his 52nd birthday today.
His career
Ewan McGregor began his career in the late 1980s working in theater and television productions in the United Kingdom. He achieved international success in 1996 with the film “Trainspotting” directed by Danny Boyle, which became a cult film. Since then, McGregor has starred in many successful films, including “Moulin Rouge!” (2001), “Big Fish” (2003), “The Island” (2005) and “Angels & Demons” (2009).
However, the role that made McGregor a true movie icon was that of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. McGregor played his role in the three films, “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” (1999), “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” (2002) and “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005). In addition, McGregor was included in Empire’s 1997 list as “The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time” in 36th place.
The Moulin Rouge
In the 2001 film “Moulin Rouge!”, McGregor plays Christian, a poet in love with a Moulin Rouge dancer. The film was critically acclaimed and won numerous awards. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, this film was a huge success grossing more than $170 million worldwide and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning two. Set in 1899 Paris, it follows the love story between poet Christian and Satine (played by Nicole Kidman), the star of Moulin Rouge. The plot is told through a series of musical numbers ranging from pop songs of the 1990s to classics of French music.

In recent years, McGregor has played a number of roles in successful films and television series. These include returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” which is currently in production.
