It is one of the most anticipated social events, but this year, the Met Gala, which should have been held today, has been postponed, leaving the most curious fashion addicts dry-mouthed. The famous evening that inaugurates the exhibition of the Costume Institute of New York has been postponed, as rumours say, until next October due to Coronavirus (and who else?). The president of the event, as well as Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, sent the message. As the experts will know, every year the Met Gala follows a rigid theme which the guests of the jet-set must scrupulously follow with their looks; that of this May 4th would have been “About Time: Fashion and Duration“, but we will have to wait until autumn to find out how our favourite celebs will interpret it.
Lockdown and Social distancing aside, the unstoppable mood of the Met Gala has made itself felt on social networks thanks to the challenge launched by Wintour itself #MetGalaChallenge. The target? Invite the most passionate users to reproduce some of the most iconic looks seen on the most famous pink carpet in the world. Born from an idea of the extravagant singer, Billie Porter, a lover of the Met, the challenge was launched with the aim of paying homage to what would have been the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the annual fundraising gala for the Costume Institute . As you may have guessed, this year’s theme has time as the protagonist. To symbolize it, a huge clock has become its exhibition space, which collects 60 iconic garments that have marked the history of costume from 1870 to today. Will our celebs be inspired by the past or the future? Will this global pandemic also change the approach to the world’s most famous fashion event? Pending the postponed Met Gala, let’s enjoy together some of the most iconic looks of the last editions:
