Julien Dossena, the French designer born in Plomeur (in Moribihan) inherited in 2013 the artistic imagination of the fashion house founded by Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo, mainly known as Paco Rabanne.
After his experience at Balenciaga, alongside Nicolas Gesquière, Dossena took the reins of the fashion brand that symbolises contemporary and futuristic garments created using unusual materials – metal, paper and plastic.
Paco Rabanne kicked off Paris Fashion Week dedicated to couture collections by presenting its Ready-to-Wear collection for Spring Summer 2023. In fact, the eagerly awaited Paris Couture Week officially starts today.
The collection presented by Julien Dossena for Paco Rabanne parades on a metallic catwalk illuminated by latex and bright shades of colour, from purple to green to electric blue. Among the leitmotifs of Paco Rabanne’s Spring Summer 2023 collection are scarves knotted under the chin, and a sensuality revisited by the boldest, most breakneck hints. The inspiration for this collection designed by Dossena has clear references to current social issues, especially the war in Ukraine and the denial of the right to abortion in the United States.
The context in which this collection is set leads us to much more authentic reflections, the Rabanne universe is well represented but takes on new meanings. The catwalk – reminiscent of the metal scaffolding typically used in construction – certainly has a strong metaphorical meaning. A message that probably has every intention of leading us to an important question: what will happen, what will the recovery look like and how difficult will it be to rebuild our society?
