Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection for Dior opens with an exceptional backdrop. We are talking about a work/installation by Joana Vasconcelos, an artist born in 1971, known above all for her monumental sculptures. In her works she likes to incorporate, with absolute irony, everyday objects creating a real bridge between the domestic environment and public space, questioning the condition of women, consumerism and collective identity.
All this also applies to Maria Grazia Chiuri, you know, each of her collections is the right occasion to reflect on what exactly clothing is in relation to the body and fashion.
Thus on the catwalk are garments that reinterpret the fashion of the 1950s by exploring new worlds and paying homage to extraordinary figures such as Catherine Dior, Édith Piaf and Juliette Gréco. We are talking about independent women who shook post-war female stereotypes. This collection is set against a backdrop of floral motifs – so beloved of Monsieur Dior – and a rebellious femininity among coats, jackets and straight and full skirts. The colour nuances range from emerald to topaz yellow and stainless blue.
