Sailor Moon has been one of the anime we watched the most during our childhood. Which was your fave Sailor warrior? The legendary Bunny or her friends? Did you prefer more Sailor Mars or Sailor Mercury? Or maybe Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter?
Many of us, for sure, channelled their inner Sailor warrior at some carnival or birthday party, dreaming about having their powers for a day. Their costumes, actually, were the most fashionable ever in those years! Do you want to discover why?
Here we go: Naoko Takeuchi, the famous manga creator, was a true fashion addicted, especially an haute couture maniac. In the Nineties, designers like Gianfranco Ferré for Dior, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Thierry Mugler dramatically changed fashion with their visionary creations.
Some of their haute couture pieces inspired Sailor Moon and her friends’ closet: from Princess Serenity’s white dress, inspired by a Dior 1992 haute couture creation, to Black Lady costume, that is so similar to the dress Kate Moss wore in the famous Yves Saint Laurent Opium fragrance advertising. But the most incredible outfits are the ones worn by wicked characters, that seem to come out from a fashion show of that time.
