Milan, September 26, 2021, the fashion system is getting ready to witness, in the midst of the most awaited fashion week of recent years, a unique moment, an unprecedented fusion, a celebration of pure fashion. Yes, because Versace By Fendi or Fendi By Versace is not a collaboration, but a palindrome union in which two icons celebrate Italian fashion by upsetting the order of things.
Fendace, this is the way in which aficionados wanted to nickname this unique moment, is fashion with a capital F and V, synonyms of freedom, fun and virtuosity. In Fendace the roles of two of the greatest exponents of contemporary fashion design mix and exchange, dialogue, underlining the mutual professional respect of two personalities who have marked them forever on some of the pages of the great history called fashion. Donatella Versace and Silvia Venturini Fendi have moved away from what in the jargon of baseball we would call base houses, to be inspired by the vision of the other towards a new way forward, indicated to them by Mr. Kim Jones, now an extraordinary inhabitant of other’s houses.
In Fendace, Fendi shows its exceptional vision of Versace and Versace its inimitable interpretation of Fendi, opening their respective wonderful archives and taking up their codes and structures. The cultures of Fendi and Versace, their interpretations of cosmopolitan Made In Italy merge and fertilize, encouraging themselves to be themselves, giving life to a new DNA where the genetic codes are those of both. Today’s fashion requires sincerity and Fendi and Versace wear their truest faces to create a collection that, perhaps for the first time, makes sense to be defined inimitable.
Fendace is inspired by the mid to late nineties period of the historic house, VERSACE BY FENDI explores an idea of duality, seen most clearly in a fusion of the Fendi monogram with the Versace Greek Key motif. in FENDI BY VERSACE The garments are transformed and become reversible, revisiting the excellence of one and the other: the chain mail made of leather by the Fendi atelier, the multigenerational and at times punk-rock approach of Donatella Versace. Versace’s safety pins perforate signs and symbols of Fendi, whose leather is combined with lace and crystals for new interpretations of the historic monograms. The silk faille mimics denim and the shearlings are shaved, making the world of Fendi a little more youthful and rebellious.
To take part in this extraordinary birth, leading names and esteemed friends of the two houses met from all over the world. Artists of the caliber of Liz Hurley, Demi Moore, Evan Mock, Luca Gudagnino, Winnie Harlow, Chiara Ferragni and Fedez, Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid and many others attended a show that was certainly unreleased but which, hopefully, is not unique.
