Small colorful houses and breathtaking landscapes, enchanted atmospheres and tulip fields. Have you been able to guess where we will take you this weekend?
The last minute getaway is upon us and yes, the destination is Amsterdam. In less than a couple of hours you will land at Schipol airport and you’ll be able to move comfortably to the city center. Amsterdam’s beauty makes it the favorite destination of thousand of turists every day and in every period of the year, that’s why, before guiding you across this beautiful city, we highly recommend to book in advance your tickets for visits, restaurants and hotels!
The activities to do are so many and we are sure that those of you, who are used to our daily pollution, will certainly take a deep breath as soon as landed. You’ll certainly want to live the perfect dutchie experience right? So get your bike and ride the canals that run through the entire city. Its concentric structure makes Amsterdam absolutely on a human scale and for this reason, visiting it all in just a weekend will be a breeze.
But let’s go on with the cool tips! The activities it offers are many and in a mix of cultures, landscapes and flavors you’ll be spoiled for choice. As soon as you arrive you’ll want to eat something right? If you’ll be able to resist the take away fries (don’t do that!), you will find around you many super fashion and above all Instagram beloved (we know you were thinking about it) places where excellent brunchs are served. From the more American inspired Avocado Show, Omelegg and Bakers and Roasters to the 50’s atmospheres of the Small Talk, you will enjoy a range of Dutch and not (stroopwaffle are a must!) delights, as well as being truly enchanted by the beauty and refinement of the furnitures. For dinner we recommend a visit to the Foodhallen (a post-modern shed with a sophisticated design where, as in an indoor market, you will taste specialties from all over the world)
The neighborhoods that deserve a mandatory stop are many but their proximity makes them all connected to each other. First of all, the Pijp, not only full of typical Dutch shops and vintage cafés but also the closest neighborhood to Vondelpark, a wonderful park immersed in a Alice in Wonderland atmosphere. Then there is Jordaan which is the residential part of Amsterdam where there is the Anne Frank house-museum and where you can admire the colorful and very inclined Dutch houses (little gem: the houses in Amsterdam are all crooked because as they were very steep inside they made the relocation from one to another impossible, so that they had to be done with pulleys mounted on the roofs). Then there is Museumplein, the district where you’ll visit the most beautiful museums of Amsterdam (worthy of note the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum) and for all the fashion victims out there, we point out Spiegelgracht a street on a canal in the style of a Wes Anderson movie, where you can find lots of interesting vintage shops and art galleries.
But there is much more: Dam Square, the Red Light District, the traditional Coffe Shops, The Bijenkorf mall … Don’t waste your time, take note of these niches and camera armed get ready to spend a weekend you won’t absolutely forget!
