I often forget about many of the clothes I already have in my closet — the dominant feeling when I try to decide what to wear is that I haven’t got enough stuff to create new outfits every day. So what is the problem, then? Just one — I keep going shopping, I keep accumulating clothes, and end up not making the best of what is already in my wardrobe. And I don’t think I’m the only one, right?
Not everyone has this problem though. Have you ever noticed how Scandinavian girls start from the basics, and build looks with those basic items that always make them look utterly cool? I tried to follow their style, and I truly became a fan of the idea of being modern and sophisticated, while using classic pieces I draw from my closet. if you are curious, you can also try: if you match things in the right way, your classics could just become the trendy pieces of the season! So why not try to use this simplicity as the basis of our philosophy? Think about it — you don’t need necessarily need the newest stuff from the most recent shows to be stylish!
So let’s stop for a second, and try to figure out exactly how Scandinavian girls pull off their style. If we wanted to make a list of the characteristics making up their style, there would probably be four.
1. Fashion evergreens will always be the coolest clothes you have in your closet.
2. Denim pants are totally a part of sophisticated outfits.
3. Layers are the way to go if you want to keep on wearing your favorite clothes, without being influenced by the weather.
4. Adding color can give a touch of sunshine even to the outfit you will wear on the coldest day of winter — and Scandinavians know a thing or two about that!
The basic idea here is not to stop buying clothes, but to learn to make good use what you already have in your wardrobe. What do you think? If you are curious, you will find some ideas in the gallery on how to match the classics that are in every girl’s closet, and look totally cool this winter — but always adding a new little detail 🙂 Would you like to challenge yourselves?
