Christmas in Italy is a much-loved time of celebration, you know, especially at the table. Tradition and conviviality come together, and often choosing a culinary gift to buy is no easy task.
Speaking especially of culinary delicacies, Italian Christmas food is incredibly varied and – be very careful – often high in calories. But we will deal with all this after the festive season.
From northern to central to southern Italy, Christmas traditions vary widely. Btw, good food remains one of the most important elements of Christmas traditions, and this is the occasion to prepare typical recipes, to drink and dine with friends and relatives.
What do Italians eat at Christmas?
As in many other countries, Christmas sweets play an undisputed leading role in Italy. In every region we know several iconic, sugary dishes, but some of them are loved throughout the country.
Panettone, of all of them, is undoubtedly the king of the Italian Christmas table. Its special scent of vanilla or citrus fruits wafts through the air of every home. Then the ever-present pandoro with its egg-rich dough – very close to that of French brioche – is often served on the table with icing sugar.
So we have chosen to show you, with one of our galleries, some products that you absolutely cannot do without during the Christmas holidays. From the Pink Christmas pandoro by Balocco and Chiara Ferragni, to the cocoa pandoro by the well-known Italian pastry chef Iginio Massari, to the panettone by the historic Milanese pastry shop Cucchi, and some ideal drinks to accompany them, including: Baileys Deliciously Light or an excellent sparkling wine such as MARTINI Asti,
