With 52 million users glued to the screen, Ginny & Georgia is undoubtedly the Netflix 2021 series that, immediately after Bridgerton, has already become a cult. Since her debut on February 24th, Ginny & Georgia has made us fall in love with its straightforward, true and ironic way of dealing with the complicated relationship between mother and daughter, painting a wonderful portrait of the difficulties faced by an unconventional family and in which many they could mirror each other. To cheer the hope of its fans, the protagonists of the series have recently announced the confirmation that we have all been waiting for: season 2 is coming!
The story of Georgia, a mother with a difficult past, and Ginny, a teenager who finds herself dealing with her character and the difficulties of her growth, will continue. Ginny & Georgia‘s second season is therefore in the home straight, but what do we know? Ginny & Georgia 2 will consist of 10 episodes and will again see the wonderful Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry as protagonists, directed by an all-female team. Composed of showrunner Debra J. Fisher, creator Sarah Lampert and director Anya Adams, the strength of the series is contained in its communicative power, which is not afraid to tackle in no uncertain terms some of the themes with which unfortunately, even today, so many women have to deal with, making millions of viewers around the world reflect in their stories. Not only Ginny and Georgia will be confirmed in the cast, but also Paul, the mayor and new companion of Georgia, the rebel Marcus, the sweet Hunter and the beloved Joe.
Ginny & Georgia: Who are they
Waiting for the second season, for those who have not yet enjoyed the series in one breath (go and do it now!), Let’s make a recap of what has happened so far … we will be careful of the promised spoilers!
The character who most impressed us, yes we are taking a stand, is Georgia. Georgia is a mother who differs a lot from what is the classic definition of mother that each of us has in mind. Georgia is a thirty year old girl who became pregnant with her Ginny when she was only 15 years old after running away from her stepfather who abused her. The trauma that Georgia carries in her heart does not make her sleep at night and makes her develop an incredible fragility that she masks with a strong, exuberant character and a wonderfully free spirit. Virginia, known as Ginny, is not the only daughter of Georgia, accompanying their stories is little Austin, born from the woman’s first marriage. Both have the names of two cities, do you want to know why?
Georgia’s life, even after watching the first season, is still a secret. Georgia escapes from her past, moves between broken relationships and new jobs, from city to city, giving her children the names of the places where they were born and changing her name from time to time, so as not to leave a trace. But why is she doing it? The first season lets us discover the truth a little bit at a time, with some flashbacks from Georgia’s past that highlight the turbulent life of a girl who now has only one goal: the happiness of her children at the expense of the dramas to which life put them in front. Do not expect the classic apprehensive and “bigoted” mother, Georgia knows the dynamics of the world of young people better than any other mother, she leaves Ginny free to have her experiences, defending her from the problems of adolescence as a super partes angel who does not need to punish her at the first prank.
Ginny, at least for the first few episodes, is presented as mother Georgia’s nemesis. She is wise, intelligent and ambitious, she does not want her mother to switch from one relationship to another to the point that, often, she has to wear the clothes of a parent. In fact, even Ginny’s fragilities will not be long in coming. The first season begins with the new life begun by Georgia, Ginny and Austin in Wellsbury, a New England town, where the family is finally ready to start a new chapter after the mysterious death of Austin’s father and ex-husband of Georgia. Ginny in the new city, finally discovers a new life made up of friends and especially of first boyfriends. However, the seemingly idyllic relationship between Ginny and Georgia begins to destabilize in Wellsbury. Ginny discovers that her mom has always kept her secrets from her youth hidden, and wants to discover the truth Georgia has always wanted to defend her from, starting with her real name.
In Wellsbury, the lives of Ginny, Georgia and Austin will highlight some contemporary themes that the series speaks for: bullying, self-harm, racism and violence are treated in a new and incredibly successful way, alternating dramatic moments. to comic moments in a series that, without too many doubts, is destined to become one of those that are never forgotten.
