Model Kendall Jenner has landed in the food & beverage market with her new brand of Tequila 818. Tequila 818 owes its name to the Calabasas prefix, the place where she lives, and seems to be the result of a project that the model has secretly kept for 4 years. But why a tequila brand and what were the reactions of her and non-her followers?
Let’s start by saying that, like every project of the Kardashian family, even the launch of tequila 818 was not pardoned by criticism. The news was launched by the beautiful Kendall who posted on her Instagram profile a photo that tells of the tasting journey between competitions, won worldwide, and tastings that led her to the choice of the one that, without delay, has called the best tequila she’s ever drunk. As can be seen from the label posted by Jenner herself, 818 is a tequila produced 100% with blue agaves of which, for now, we only know, thanks to the dedicated Instagram page, which will be offered in three different drinks: Blanco Tequila, Reposado Tequila and Añejo Tequila, differentiated according to its aging. Nothing is known about the release date yet, but it seems that drink aficionados can’t wait to try it.

The protagonists of Keeping Up With The Kardashian had already spoiled the news, which did not go unnoticed by the most attentive fans. In fact, on a recent trip to Mexico, the Kardashian sisters posted photos in which this phantom bottle of Tequila was seen in the background and where? Right in Jalisco, where the 818 is produced. From here, however, the first criticisms started! There are those who say that 818 is not a true Mexican tequila, which, like Italian or French wines, must be produced according to very strict rules imposed by the state regarding the manufacture and labeling of products. But is a name with a Californian prefix enough not to make it authentic? In reality, contrary to what the critics say, Jenner’s Tequila does not seem to disregard the rules, the 818 has, like all other tequilas, an identification number that corresponds to the distillery that produced it. That of Kendall Jenner corresponds to La Cofradia, a Mexican private distillery that owns more than 60 brands currently in production including Adoro Tequila and Casa Noble. So, pass the criticism that the name does not exactly recall Mexican culture (truthful), but it seems that Kendall has not done anything against the regulations of spirits.
In reality, the celebrities who have launched into the beverage market are many: George Clooney launched Casamigos tequila in 2013 sold four years later for 1 billion dollars, together with him the names of The Rock, Nick Jonas and Adam Levine appear in the distillate market, all owners or partners of tequila brands. Not to mention the wine market where names like Post Malone, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Jay-z and many more. Sister Kim Kardashian, Kendall’s supporter, admitted on the web that she had never been a drinker before tasting tequila 818. Is it destined to become the exceptional tequila during social events among celebrities? We’ll see, the truth is that, in a pandemic period, a drink certainly doesn’t hurt anyone, celebs or not!
