Drew Barrymore is considered one of Hollywood’s best-loved actresses, mainly known for her talent, her beauty and especially for that overwhelming smile. However, her life and career have been marked by many events, ups and downs, which have led her to become one of the most idolised and – in the meantime – criticised celebrities. Today, on her 48th birthday, we celebrate this incredible actress who has been in the business for a very long time.
Drew was born on 22 February 1975 in Culver City, California, and is the daughter of actor John Drew Barrymore and his third wife, Jaid Barrymore. Having grown up in a family of actors, little Barrymore began acting early on, appearing in a number of successful films. One of them is undoubtedly ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’, the great masterpiece directed by Steven Spielberg in 1982. In the same year, on 20 November, she became the youngest guest to take part in the famous TV programme Saturday Night Live.
In the following years, especially after her teenage years, Drew was forced to deal with a number of problems due to her addiction to alcohol and drugs, linked to her emotional instability and family problems. However, in spite of everything, like many other Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore managed to pick herself up and take part in some of her most successful films including: “Ever After”, “Never Been Kissed”, “50 Times the First Kiss”, “Music and Lyrics” and “Charlie’s Angels”. Not only movies though, over the years Barrymore has been involved in the creation of a cosmetics line “Flower Beauty” and becoming an executive producer of several television programmes such as her own “The Drew Barrymore Show”, a talk show of which she is also the host.
