Jake Gyllenhaal has come a long way since his starring role in October Sky almost 20 years ago.
His film debut came when he was only 11 years old in City Slickers (1991). In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he starred in the wonderful 1999 film October Sky, then Donnie Darko (2001), receiving an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actor for the latter. He then played roles in films such as Bubble Boy (2001), The Good Girl (2002), Moonlight Mile (2002) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004).
Not just films, Gyllenhaal made his theatre debut in a revival of This Is Our Youth, a play that was very well received there. Returning to film, he then starred in Jarhead (2005) and Proof (2005). Of all of them, her performance in Brokeback Mountain (2005) is considered one of the best. For this he won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor and was also nominated for other awards.
