Meghan Markle, also known to many as the Duchess of Sussex is an American actress and wife of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, son of Charles III of the United Kingdom and Lady Diana. Talk of her dating Harry began in June 2016 and in November 2017 their engagement was officially announced. On 19 May 2018 they were married in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in the UK, in what became one of the most anticipated Royal Weddings in recent years.
Many already knew Markle as an actress in the hit TV series Suits, but marrying Harry forced her to announce her farewell to the stage. In 2020, after Meghan and Harry decided to give up the Sovereign Grant and the role of ‘Senior Royal’ of the British royal family. Once free, the two newlyweds signed a contract with Netflix and Markle made her debut as a voice actress.
On 8 September, the United Kingdom and the whole world paused for a moment to bid farewell to their beloved Queen Elizabeth II, and many noticed the fact that Meghan Markle had not travelled to the Balmoral estate with the rest of the British royal family. But a few days later Meghan Markle made her triumphant return to England. During their trip to the UK, Harry and Meghan also met up with Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, at Windsor Castle to pay their respects to the Queen and greet their subjects.
It was only recently, however, that she made a few statements to the entertainment magazine Variety; in the interview, Meghan talked about what the last few weeks have been like for her and Prince Harry, describing it as ‘a very complicated time’. Prince Harry reacted to the bereavement by stating ‘She is now reunited with her husband’, referring to Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99.
“At big moments in life, you have a very broad perspective, which leads you to ask yourself what you want to focus your energies on. There has been an outpouring of love and support. I am really grateful that I was able to be there to support my husband. In terms of female leadership, the Queen was an example, so I feel deep gratitude for being able to spend time with her and get to know her. The most beautiful thing is to look at the legacy she has been able to leave on so many fronts.”
These are some of Meghan’s words after the death of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
