Collectors of the world’s most famous doll and fans of The Queen are already excited. To celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, Mattel has decided to pay homage to the sovereign of the United Kingdom with a Barbie doll dedicated to her. The launch took place for its 96th birthday but the miniature, cared for in every detail, also wants to celebrate the 70 years of Lilibet’s reign.
Elizabeth II’s Barbie (it will be called Barbie Signature Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Doll) is part of a Tribute Collection inaugurated last year with the doll dedicated to Lucille Ball.
The dress is ivory with two ribbons applied, one pink and one blue that faithfully reproduce those donated to the monarch by his father King George VI and grandfather George V. You can not miss on the regal head the Fringe tiara, worn by Elizabeth on the day of her wedding with Prince Philip in 1947. Fun fact: the real Fringe tiara can also be worn as a necklace and was made for Queen Mary in 1919. It was that “something borrowed” for the wedding day and it was her mother who lent it.
The doll will be sold in limited edition on the Mattel and Amazon websites, by Harrods, Hamley’s, Selfridges and John Lewis starting April 21, 2022 ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Central weekend between June 2 and 5, 2022.
