TBS Meets Petite Meller

Self-ironic, romantic, over the top and unmistakably star, Petite Meller is the very young author of Baby Love that we all loved in 2015. But who is it? Sivan Eva Meller, this is her real name, is a French naturalized Israeli singer and model. Young and unconventional, her already iconic style has led her to be noticed not only by the music industry but by the international fashion one, which increasingly chooses her as the face for campaigns with a dreamy and fairytale soul. We met Petite Meller during Milan Fashion Week at a Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini fitting of which she will be a front-row ambassador wearing a total-look, and we took the opportunity to ask her some questions about her incredible new album coming out! Here is her interview:

TBS: You define yourself as a citizen of the world and the story of your life is divided between Paris, Tel Aviv and America, what is the influence of these cultures in your music? And do you feel more Parisian, American or Israeli?

PETITE MELLER: It’s funny because I started my life in France and then I moved to Israel and then Los Angeles, where I live now. I love cultures and, if you know my videos, you know I love to travel really far, to experience new cultures and to try to create a new fashion and folklore. What I do is to bring some Israeli, French and American elements together in a mixture and it’s always about how I experience things and bring them into my music. Today I feel a little bit more American because I’ve been living in Los Angeles for a few years now and I’m always eating burgers and fries!

TBS: What are your musical influences?

PETITE MELLER: My musical influences are coming from Paul Simon and Graceland, but also from french songs that my mum used to listen to when I was young. Actually my mom is half french half Moroccan so also the African music and the bongo beats are part of my musical influences. In my new album, which I’m working on, I combine classical music with electronic music! I recorded a 40 piece orchestra in Russia and mixed it with electronic, I love to experience new music.

TBS: You achieved international success with the single Baby Love, what can you tell us about the story behind this track? What about your future album?

PETITE MELLER: Baby Love is a song that I wrote when I was very broken hearted, my first album was all about big pop songs with really sad lyrics. In the first album I went to other countries to experience other places, in this new album I dive into deeper places inside me. It’s more melancholic, big orchestra and opera…it’s grand and contains big big songs. The first song of the album is called Dying Out Of Love and….you will hear it soon!! I can’t tell anything, I’ll just tell that there will be a hit like Baby Love and it’s a song that I wrote with the great Daniel Warren

TBS: You are a singer but also a model, what is your relationship with the fashion world? What’s your favorite designer?

PETITE MELLER: I don’t have a specific designer, I love many, but I’m very inspired by cinema, especially Italian cinema. All the fashion inspirations I have are taken by Antonioni, Fellini and the gorgeous Italian actress, I love the absurd, the ridiculous, I’m not afraid to have self-humor.
