Far away all the fans of color block and total black, the hottest trend of the moment, Instagram certified, is again the TIE-DYE.
Why we said again? Because the tie-dye has its roots in the late ’60s, better known as the period of Woodstock and this method of dyeing clothes was the absolute icon of the hippie culture. Its psychedelic and super colored pattern has, indeed, been the protagonist of what have historically become the most iconic outfits of the casual-boho style, mutating from a technique to a real trend.
Talking about dyeing techniques, which is the method to tie-dye? As the name suggets, it consists of two actions: to tie and dye. In this way the tied textile, once immersed in the paint, will come out in a unique kaleidoscopic pattern.
After a little throwback during the 90’s, today more than ever the tie-dye is colouring again our wardrobes above all on sweaters, tees and overalls. Still a few are talking about it right now but on the runways and above all on Instagram, the hippie wind is flowing again. But there’s more…the low cost brands have taken it back as a trend, a little bit like the Beat Generation culture would have loved.
Zara started with oversized sweaters and tees and then followed Mango and Asos. High fashion couldn’t renounce it and some brands made of it the leitmotiv of their collections; MSGM, that has never said no to colors, tie-dyied the most of its outfit proposals. Also Stella McCartney made of it a statement above all on denim jackets and playsuits. And then? Ralph Lauren made an entire line o jumpsuits that looks to be thrown back straight from the 70’s.
And, if it’s true that with summer our bohemienne soul comes out, among crochet and rafia bags comes back also the tie-dye in the most posted outfits of IT-Girls and fashion novas, who confirming what we saw on the catwalks, declare it the official trend for this spring!
