C’è un motivo per cui Lady Diana è ancora oggi così amata anche da generazioni che non l’hanno “conosciuta” mediaticamente mentre era in vita ed è perché non ha vere eredi. Kate Middleton è molto amata, è vero, e anche googlatissima ma non ha quel dono speciale che aveva Diana e che smuoveva chiunque la guardasse. Meghan Markle è stata una meteora nel grande ritratto della Royal Family. In lei, inizialmente, molti hanno pensato di vedere lo stesso spirito ribelle, purtroppo rivelatosi altro.
Diana ha raccontato se stessa anche attraverso ciò che indossava. La sua emancipazione da donna libera e lontana dai tentacoli della corona era in Versace, gli anni del fidanzamento con Carlo erano in abiti che sembravano usciti da un film Disney e invece erano firmati da Catherine Walker. Poi quei look sporty chic quando usciva dal country club con i ciclisti fluo, le macro felpe e la borsa di Hermès o di Tod’s. E ancora il Revenge Dress, audace come nessuna prima di lei, indossato per andare sola al gala di Vanity Fair mentre Carlo ammetteva la sua infedeltà davanti a tutto il mondo. Sì, Diana non ha eredi né pari ed è così che si diventa icone senza tempo.
