In the darkness of a location like Park Avenue Armory, a bull’s eye illuminated the allure of Marc Jacobs‘ incredible looks for Spring/Summer 2023. Many celebrities and personalities from the fashion system attended the show, from Emily Ratajkowski to Ashley Graham. Certainly not Lourdes Leon Ciccone, en effet Madonna’s daughter did not have access to the event because she seemed to have arrived after the show had already started. But back to the show, it all took place in the most iconic and evocative of silences. The Heroes fashion show – linked to the David Bowie song of the same name – paid homage to the creative flair of the recently deceased visionary Vivienne Westwood. In fact, one of the British designer’s most famous quotes was included in the show notes:
“Fashion makes life better and I think it’s a beautiful and generous thing to do for others”.
– Vivienne Westwood
THE BEST LOOKS FROM MARC JACOBS’ SPRING/SUMMER 2023 COLLECTION
This Marc Jacobs fashion show – which anticipated the official start of New York Fashion Week by a week – once again demonstrated how this designer is a voracious consumer of fashion, art and music, as well as a lover of limitless research. Thus, special reference looks paraded on the catwalk from Balenciaga to Rick Owens, passing through the universe signed by Miuccia Prada, up to Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo.
Of all of them, however, it is the Westwood universe that stands out, among punk, tweed and corsets. Jacobs is clear about how working in the shadow of geniuses like those mentioned above can improve our existence, not diminish it.
Among the details, we almost seem to recognise the same platform wedges sported by the stainless Naomi Campbell during Westwood’s Autumn/Winter 1993 collection – the very ones from the famous fall. And again, we loved the coats embellished with geometric denim patchwork, the bomber jackets, the incursion of a very bright red and, in conclusion, the two long dresses (so Vivienne) with polka dot print.
